Cedric Mitchell Featured in Objects: USA 2024

by cedric mitchell

I’m honored to share that my work was featured in Objects: USA 2024, a major contemporary craft and design exhibition presented by R & Company in New York City.

The exhibition ran from September 6, 2024 through January 10, 2025 and brought together 55 contemporary American artists and designers whose work challenges the boundaries between craft, art, and collectible design.

About Objects: USA 2024

Objects: USA is a landmark exhibition series originally launched in 1969, known for elevating American makers working across materials including glass, ceramics, wood, metal, and textiles. The 2024 edition continues this legacy by spotlighting artists whose practices emphasize material exploration, handmaking, and cultural narrative.

The exhibition was presented across R & Company’s Tribeca locations at 64 White Street and 82 Franklin Street, featuring nearly 100 objects by leading contemporary makers shaping the future of American design.

Cedric Mitchell’s Work in the Exhibition

My work was selected as part of Objects: USA 2024 for its engagement with hand-blown glass, sculptural form, and culturally driven design language. Rooted in my ongoing exploration of Modern Funk aesthetics, my practice blends traditional glassmaking techniques with contemporary influences drawn from art, design, and culture.

The pieces included in the exhibition reflect my commitment to expanding the role of glass beyond function..positioning it as a medium for storytelling, expression, and collectible object design.

Significance of the Exhibition

Being featured in Objects: USA 2024 places my work within a national survey of contemporary American craft and design, alongside artists who are redefining how objects are made, experienced, and valued today.

This exhibition marks an important milestone in my practice and contributes to an ongoing body of work that spans glass, furniture, lighting, and sculptural objects.

I’m grateful to the curators and team at R & Company for including my work in this significant exhibition and for supporting artists who continue to push the boundaries of contemporary craft.
