About Me

Who I Am

I’m Cedric Mitchell, a multidisciplinary designer, glass artist, and cultural tastemaker working at the intersection of craft, utility, and visual culture. My work is rooted in handmaking but reaches beyond any single medium. I design objects that carry energy, emotion, and intention. Pieces meant to live with people, not sit behind glass.

My design language is what I call "Modern Funk". It is defined by bold color, playful geometry, and confident forms balanced by structure and refinement. I draw inspiration from music, movement, architecture, and everyday rituals. Whether I am working on lighting, furniture, or collectible objects, my goal remains the same. To create work that feels alive, expressive, and deeply human.

Cedric Mitchell Design is not just a studio. It is a platform for craft-driven innovation across categories where functional objects, sculptural works, and cultural storytelling coexist.

My Journey & Direction

I did not come to this through a traditional design pipeline. I started as a rapper, drawn to rhythm, improvisation, and expression. Glass found me later, and it changed everything. The material demanded presence, discipline, and respect, and in return it gave me a language.

Over the past decade, I have built a layered practice that moves fluidly between functional design, collectible work, and sculptural expression. I have developed products and systems that speak to designers, collectors, and everyday users alike. I have collaborated with global brands, institutions, and creative partners while maintaining autonomy over my voice and direction.

More important than what I have made is what I am building.

I am focused on creating a sustainable ecosystem around craft. One that supports artists, expands access, and challenges outdated ideas about who belongs in design and how success is measured. My work today is as much about systems and pathways as it is about objects.

2026 and beyond is about clarity, alignment, and longevity. Fewer distractions. Deeper intention. Stronger foundations.

What I Stand For

Creative Independence
I value autonomy, authorship, and integrity. I honor craft traditions while pushing them forward into new territory.

Culture Over Categories
I do not believe in rigid labels. My work lives between art, design, and function because culture does not fit neatly into boxes.

Community and Access
I am committed to expanding access to craft and design, especially for those historically excluded from these spaces. Mentorship, education, and shared resources are core to my practice.

Design With Purpose
Every object I make is intentional, not just in form but in meaning. I design for connection, joy, and use, not excess.
